DHL Express: Prohibited and Restricted Items
DHL Express has specific rules about what can and cannot be shipped internationally. Our staff can help you determine whether your item is eligible before you come in.
- Dangerous goods and hazardous materials require special DHL certifications — ask us before shipping
- Lithium batteries have size and quantity limits depending on whether they are inside a device or shipped separately
- Perishables, live animals, and currency are generally not accepted via DHL Express retail
- Certain countries have import restrictions on specific goods — we can help verify for your destination
- Commercial goods over certain value thresholds require a commercial invoice with accurate declared value
When in doubt, call us at (801) 277-4411 before making the trip. We would rather help you plan ahead than have you drive over with something we cannot ship.

How long does DHL Express international shipping take?
DHL Express Worldwide typically delivers in 1 to 3 business days to most major international markets. Time-definite options like DHL Express 9:00, 10:30, and 12:00 offer next-business-day delivery to select destinations. Transit times vary by origin, destination, and service selected — our staff can give you an estimate for your specific shipment.
What countries does DHL Express deliver to?
DHL Express delivers to more than 220 countries and territories worldwide — making it the carrier with the broadest international reach. Whether you are shipping to Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, or Africa, DHL Express can typically get your package there.
Do I need a commercial invoice to ship internationally with DHL?
Yes — a commercial invoice is required for most international shipments that contain goods (not personal documents). It lists the contents, declared value, country of origin, and recipient information. Our staff at Ship Utah can help you prepare the commercial invoice correctly, which reduces the chance of customs delays.
Is DHL Express better than FedEx or UPS for international shipping?
For most international shipments, DHL Express is the strongest option. DHL has the widest international network, in-house customs clearance in more countries, and typically faster transit times to many global markets. UPS and FedEx are excellent for domestic U.S. shipping and competitive for international, but DHL's core strength is international express. Since Ship Utah offers all three carriers, we can compare rates and transit times for your specific shipment.
Can Ship Utah pack my DHL shipment for me?
Yes. We offer professional packing services for DHL Express shipments. We carry DHL Express envelopes, boxes, bubble wrap, foam padding, and double-wall cartons for fragile items. Bring your item in and we will pack it to DHL standards.
